As ‘recession’ goes into the background of all that was news at one time, it is interesting to take a look back at what it has left behind in its wake. While many people say it was a disaster of massive proportions, some optimists look at it as a purging of sorts that leaves the strong standing, the weak destroyed and the few adaptable as the leaders of innovation. How then do we define innovation? Innovation claims to be a change in the thought process for doing something or "new stuff that is made useful".

The Symposium

The Channel World Premier 100 Awards this year focused on the idea of innovation and the strategies that system integrators put in place to weather the economic slowdown. In an address on this at the 2 day symposium, Prof Vinay Dabholkar of Catalign Innovative Consulting talked about the 8 Ways of Systematic Innovation as defined by Thomas Edison. Guest of honour, Porus Munshi on the other hand spoke of Making Innovation Happen through leap frog growth. In support of this was the talk by Dharmakirti Joshi, Chief Economist, CRISIL, who believes that the growth opportunities have not fundamentally altered for India as they have for the advanced world. Sudhir Sethi, Founder Chairman & Managing Director, IDG Ventures, who delivered the keynote address at the event, talked of how to capture these opportunities and what a venture capitalist looks for in an entrepreneurial setup.
