Ishan Group
By Radhika Nallayam Wed, Jan 27, 2010What would be the scope of a business that offers the latest IT solutions and services in a small city like Rajkot? Before you say ‘very limited’, let us tell you the story of Ishan Group, a company that started as a training institute and later became a significant player in the systems integration space, within and beyond Gujarat.
Pinkesh Kotecha, Founder of Ishan says, “Soon after we started in 2000, we realized the scope of network systems integration. We started by providing WAN connectivity to SMBs in Rajkot. Though we could have moved to a bigger city, we decided to stay put in Rajkot.”
When it came to identifying opportunities, Ishan didn’t confine itself to the limits of that small city. It bagged many deals from companies that were based out of bigger cities, like Ahmedabad, Baroda and interestingly, even Mumbai. “We recently bagged three datacenter implementation projects from Mumbai. We, in fact, wondered why a company from a metro city like Mumbai would call up an SI in Rajkot for its IT implementation.” Kotecha has the answer too. “SMBs need customized solutions that cater to their specific needs. More than just an IT vendor, they need a strategic IT consultant who can drive their entire IT implementations. A larger SI wouldn’t do both of these.”
According to Kotecha, the popular notion that customers in smaller cities are reluctant to accept new technologies is wrong. Server virtualization, storage virtualization, blade servers, datacenter consolidation and unified communication are just few of the implementations Ishan has carried out recently. Ishan also provides bandwidth to businesses and is now on the verge of acquiring a class-A ISP license. It has also invested Rs 1.25 crore and built a datacenter to provide managed services and server hosting to customers. The company expects to derive a revenue of about Rs 3 crore from hosting services in the next one year. Kotecha is confident that these new initiatives would help Ishan become a Rs 25 crore company in the next fiscal.
