Yogi Mistry, Senior Vice President, Narus

How important is India as a market for you?

open/close

With only a few months left in the year, Narus is poised to continue its 200 percent plus revenue growth in 2010 as well. This year, our efforts were recognized for excellence in R&D in security services for the telecom industry with an INFOCOM CMAI National Telecom Award. This award is for companies that contribute to the growth of the telecom industry in India with innovative services and solutions. Our domestic customers in India include some of the biggest names in Indian telecom space like Reliance Communications and Sify. Indian government organizations are looking for solutions to protect the national infrastructure from cyber attacks. Service providers are looking for solutions to comply with government regulations for lawful intercept and solutions to protect its networks from attacks.

What are some of the favorable trends for the growth of this market in India?

open/close

Mounting cyber attacks on critical government networks and national infrastructure have spurred our government into action. Governments are proposing a concentrated effort to protect the nation’s infrastructure. Service providers and government contractors are working together to ensure their networks are protected against malicious cyber attacks and meet government regulatory requirements

Current growth in the Indian telecommunications industry mirrors the late 90’s expansion in the United States. New service providers are emerging and global service providers are applying for licenses to provide services in India. Due to the regulatory demands made by local government bodies, these new entrants are mandated to meet requirements for traffic monitoring, precision targeting, and network protection before they start operating in India.

Narus has experience and expertise in providing security, intercept and traffic management solutions within a single, flexible system. With Narus, service providers, governments and large enterprises can rapidly detect, analyze, target, and mitigate any unwanted, unwarranted or malicious traffic on any size network.

Tell us about some of your recent initiatives in the Indian market

We have recently launched the enhanced NarusInsight, a real-time traffic intelligence system in the India market. The latest version of NarusInsight introduces highly customizable and extensible monitoring capabilities, powerful analytics and increased system performance. Along with strong partners in India that understand the dynamic culture and share the local contacts, Narus has been able to successfully penetrate the market and garner several important customers, both in domestic and international markets.

What are the opportunities you foresee in the Indian market?

open/close

Historically and currently, Indian IT companies and operators have been using siloed applications and installed them incrementally to address specific needs, each of them deployed to solve a specific problem. This is slowly changing and many organizations are taking a holistic approach towards their network security.

The Indian telecommunications industry is continuing to grow and this year we saw many new entrants in to the market. Going forward, Narus expects to play an even greater role in the protection and management of networks belonging to India’s telecoms due to the growing number of carriers operating in India and the addition of new voice and data services such as voice-over-IP, cable and wireless.

What are your plans for the Indian market in the next one year?

open/close

On the technology front, we plan to continue to launch innovative traffic intelligence solutions to assist customers in the protection and management of their networks. We also plan to work with our customers in India to successfully deploy and expand their Narus systems. We will also team up with strategic partners in India.
