Chennai-based Kryptos Networks’ key to success is its unaltered focus on ‘pay as you go’ business model. Started in 2007, the company is one of the early movers in this space, who brought in the concept of Service Provider License Agreement (SPLA) to India, by partnering with Microsoft and later with VMware. Through this model, the company today caters to almost all the leading service providers in the country, who offer hosted services. This includes not just telecom service providers and data centers but various large ITES companies and software giants.
Prasanna, CEO & Managing Director of Kryptos says, “We identified the growth potential of ‘pay as you go’ business model and how new concepts like cloud computing and remote management would revolutionize this industry. We realized that as connectivity improves, a lot of service providers would start becoming active with their hosted offerings and we saw a huge potential for SPLA. This licensing program enables service providers to license software on a monthly basis, to provide services and hosted applications to their end customers. We act as an aggregator and enabler for the hosting business of these service providers.”
The team at Kryptos soon witnessed that its predictions were right. It observed tremendous success and clocked revenues of more than Rs 10 crore within the first three years. Besides, Kryptos did not restrict itself to SPLA. The company also got into remote infrastructure management as well as monitoring, targeted both at service providers as well as enterprise customers. Though 80 percent of the company’s revenue is driven by its service provider customers, Kryptos has many enterprise customers in major cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi for its RIM services.
Kryptos is now on the verge of expanding its services offerings. To begin with, it will offer security as a service to its customers. “We also see a lot of up selling opportunities in remote management and monitoring services. We believe that by innovatively ‘packaging’ these services, we would be able to grow to the next level,” adds Prasanna. Kryptos is also looking at opportunities in other countries and started its operations in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Kryptos is looking forward to being a Rs 50 crore company in the next three years.
