India’s 7 biggest security chiefs' shuffle of 2017

Here are the ‘movers and shakers’ at the helm of seven enterprise security vendor companies this year till date.



The two-quarters this fiscal witnessed a big change – at the helm -  for many enterprise security vendors in India.

Many security vendors have their India MD exit in the first quarter now have the replacements at the top.

In the past six months, a new India chief has been appointed by Symantec, Gurucul, FireEye, Smokescreen and CrowdStrike. Cisco and IBM too appointed senior executives for their security divisions for India and SAARC region.

Security companies RSA and Akamai are expected to announce their new India leader. In April and August this year, India chiefs Kartik Shahani and Sidharth Malik left RSA and Akamai respectively. While Malik has joined as Chief Revenue Officer at Freshworks.

Most of the appointed India chiefs (industry veterans of ICT industry) have shuffled roles from one security vendor to another one. These new India chiefs like Shrikant Shitole moved from Symantec to FireEye while Vishak Raman moved from FireEye to Cisco as Director - Security Business for India & SAARC.

Sophos appointed Sunil Sharma new India MD this September this year in place of founder CEO Hemal Patel of heritage Cyberoam. Sunil has been with Cyberoam and now Sophos (which acquired Cyberoam) since past five years.

The niche security vendors expanding India operations this year have hired industry veterans too. Crowdstrike appointed former Blue Coat India’s channel chief Ramanand Kambli as regional sales director for India and SAARC. Leading security for BFSI segment for IBM, Mandar Patil in new role is the director for sales at Smokescreen Technologies.  Another Blue Coat executive, Sandeep Puri is the new country manager for Gurucul India.

In the year of 2012 and 2013, there was a spate of senior executives of enterprise security MNCs including Amit Nath (Trend Micro), Sanjay Chuggani(Barracuda), Shubhomay Biswas(SonicWALL), Vishak Raman(Fortinet) India quit their jobs as India MDs.

The top executives appointed at enterprise security companies in 2017 are listed in reverse chronological order.

1. Shrikant Shitole, Senior Director and Country Head, FireEye India

Symantec to FireEye | September 2017

Shrikant is a security industry veteran with over 25 years of experience in information technology. Shitole has held senior roles at several firms in the IT and telecommunications segment, including Cisco, Nelco (Tata Enterprise), Avaya, Sify and the last role as India MD for Symantec.

2. Mandar Patil, Director Sales India, Smokescreen

IBM to Smokescreen | August 2017

Mandar was security sales leader (India and South Asia) for BFSI at IBM for over two and half years. Besides working with HPE in cybersecurity and risk advisory services, he worked with Paladion networks for over seven years in roles of regional sales head for India and South Asia.

3. Ramanand Kambli, Regional Sales Director - India & SAARC, CrowdStrike

Ramanand was India channel chief for Blue Coat Systems from February 2013 to July 2017. With over a decade of industry experience working in senior roles at security, he drove the enterprise sales for McAfee India for over four years before moving to Blue Coat Systems.

4. Gaurav Agarwal, President Sales India & SAARC, Symantec

Cisco to Symantec | June 2017

Prior to joining Symantec, Gaurav led the Public Sector business for Cisco in India and earlier he was with IBM where he held several senior management roles. Gaurav has extensive experience working with Enterprise and Government Customers across India and building strong motivated teams

5. Vishak Raman, Director-Security Business, Cisco-India and SAARC

FireEye to Cisco | May 2017

In his 18-plus year career, Vishak has worked for security companies like WatchGuard, Fortinet and FireEye. His career’s longest stint was Fortinet’s India MD for over a decade starting in 2003. He moved to FireEye for a short stint last year after he quit Tata Communications.

6. Sandeep Puri, Country Manager India, Gurucul

Blue Coat to Gurucul | May 2017

Sandeep was the head of sales at Blue Coat India. With over eighteen years of experience in business development, channels and sales management in India, he joined Symantec in 2002 for an eleven year stint before moving to X-IO Technologies as business head in 2013.

7. Kartik Shahani, Director and Leader Security, India/South Asia, IBM

RSA to IBM | April 2017

Kartik with over decades of industry experience was senior regional director and managing director for RSA India and SAARC for over seven and half years till April 2010. Before RSA, he led McAfee operations as regional director for India and SAARC from the year 2003 to 2010.
