Think global, act local, leverage digital: Paritosh Sharma, Digital Desh

Digital Desh's Paritosh Sharma spills the beans on how Indian companies can leverage digital strategy to score over other geographies.

The author of Patanjalize Your Brand, Paritosh Sharma, shared insights into unlocking the digital future at ChannelWorld Premier 100 conference for tech leaders in India.

He listed out three important fundamentals that any organization can execute to champion the digital wave that is sweeping through the world.

“Imagine if the digital future was the key to a lock, then how would it look like? To find the answer, we at Digital Desh travelled pan-India. We reached out to village level small entrepreneurs and had conversations on what is digital for them,” said Paritosh Sharma, general manager at Digital Desh.

“Why did Patanjali, the Rs 10,000 crore story happen in just the last seven years? They solved a local problem by crowdsourcing knowledge of Ayurveda practitioners & took it to the masses.”

How can you tap in to the next billion users across tier-2 cities in India?

Sharma highlighted the potential that India market has for businesses. “Do you understand the Indian consumer well and can you solve his problems, and how?”

Firstly, think global but act local, he mentioned. “Aadhaar is one such brilliant manifestation of technology, digital and software put together in an offering that is changing this country fundamentally,” said Sharma.

Secondly, no one person can create monopoly in a market like India. Monopoly will happen with crowdsourcing. Why did Patanjali, the Rs. 10,000 crore story happen in just the last seven years? They solved a local problem by crowdsourcing knowledge of Ayurveda practitioners and took it to the masses. That is why it worked and it can also work for every business,” Paritosh Sharma pointed out.

According to Paritosh, minimalism in thought process is the third most important fundamental to unlock digital. “Solve a local problem by crowdsourcing, and create solutions with minimalism in design and technology,” he added.

"There is incredible need for services such as SaaS in tier 2 cities in India. While some are trying to bring western concepts to India, it is essential to understand that the country has its own sets of challenges. If you were to go to the hinterland of India, you would understand what works and what doesn’t. If businesses are able to truly understand hyperlocal customers, they can create products worth billions of dollars in value. And Patanjali has proved it is possible,” said Paritosh Sharma to the Premier 100 audience.
