Symantec India has a top management official in place of Vishal Dhupar, who had recently quit the security vendor to join Nvidia. Ajay Goel has been appointed as Managing Director of India at the security firm. He would be based out of Bangalore in his new role at Symantec. Since Dhupar quit Symantec last month; industry circles and partner community were abuzz about possible replacements at the security giant.

Symantec officials at India office confirmed the news about Goel’s appointment. With over twenty five years of industry experience in IT and Electronic Engineering, Goel has worked at senior management positions at Sun Microsystems and Cisco. In his last role from October 2009 onwards, Goel served as Executive Vice President at Elucido Media Networks, a technology solutions provider in the interactive digital media space.

Symantec officials refused to divulge more details about Goel’s agenda for Indian market. However, an official statement from the new MD about Symantec’s roadmap is expected by next week. Reliable sources inform that the announcement of Ajay Goel would be made at Symantec Partner Connect 2010 to be held next Thursday (2nd December) at Mumbai. The exclusive conference meant for top-level leaders of partner community across India should be an ideal platform for Goel to network with channel partners. Top Symantec executives including Bill Robbins (Executive VP, Worldwide Sales), Eric Hoh (VP, Asia South Region) and David Dzienciol (VP, Channel Sales and SMB, APJ) are scheduled to deliver global insights about security business and partner roadmap at the conference.

Symantec is a global provider of security, storage and systems management solutions since 1982. The vendor addresses the needs of enterprises and SMEs through a robust and widespread ecosystem of partners in India through its extensive range of security portfolio. Apart from market proven solutions of Endpoint Management Suite, Backup Exec, Veritas NetBackup and Enterprise Vault, Symantec is focusing on Vontu DLP and Altiris Server management suite.

Ajay Goel had a successful eight year stint as Country Director, India Business Operations at Sun Microsystems from 1999 to 2007. Later, Goel was Senior Vice President, India and SAARC at Cisco, from 2007 onwards. He is a 1982 Graduate Engineer by training in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, and an alumnus of the Stanford Business School.

Will Ajay Goel’s leadership at Symantec India help channel partners develop different customer segment, explore new technologies, and accelerate profitability in security market? Only time will answer that question.
