"I have always known only the Eastern market. Therefore I can make no comparisons. This has been my bread and butter territory,” says Maneesh Kasera, Founder-CEO of Venus Softwares, exuding the quiet confidence of a man who is at home on his turf.  Sixteen years has been a long journey for Venus Softwares from hardware reselling to networking to being a consultant solution provider. Today, Venus has made inroads into big state government accounts.

Breaking the government barrier was no big strategy for the company.  Today, Venus’ government clientele runs into an envious length, comprising health, transport, district offices, and blood banks. Through its alliance with the government, Venus has taken on some challenges with quiet resolute, the main being that of payment. Contrary to the popular belief, projects with the government never posed any major problem for the company; payment cycles were also sometimes more prompt than the corporate counterparts.

The way forward for Venus is based on quality to boost net margins rather than take a quantitative approach. Venus has seen a steady year on-year growth in its bottomlines, while Kasera does admit to a small stagnation in the topline growth rate. The second part of the company’s agenda is to help customers understand the ROI. Says Kasera, “It’s not important for a customer to spend more money; he must also understand the benefits accruing from them.” Kasera and his co-director Shantanu Bannerjee are in no hurry to rush headlong into expansion mode. Kasera justifies, “We still have tremendous scope of activity that remains in the Eastern region, so why plunge into other regions?”

A seasoned player, Venus Softwares is all set to train its guns on the long term.
