Numeric Chalks Out Strategy for Its Enterprises Solar Solutions

By Yogesh Gupta Mon, Apr 06, 2009

UPS manufacturer Numeric Power Systems is extending its ‘Green Power’ initiatives through solar solutions to enterprises including BFSI and Government in India. Numeric’s solar solutions include solar power converters, hybrid and grid-tied power systems and solar energy farms. The solar energy products include solar PV panels (Amorphous/Crystalline), solar street lightning systems and others.

“The green energy solutions including solar power systems and LED lightning solutions are an excellent substitute to conventional power methods in power-starved country like India. Numeric is well positioned to excel as end to end power conditioning company for solar related equipments also,” said A.Balan, Director, Numeric Power Systems. The company says it excels in customized solutions due to its local manufacturing units.

Numeric is optimistic to leverage its Green Energy solutions across its large installed base of over 1.5 lakh UPS units across India. “With over two decades of knowledge in the power conditioning industry backed by a 750 plus technical team, we command a leading edge over our competitors in solar space,” Balan said. The year long sunshine (almost 300 + days/year) across all Indian regions and low 1percent opex over installation is a value proposition for the company’s Greenfield projects to adopt solar based systems, he added.

Chennai-headquartered Numeric followed a ‘Direct to User’ strategy till it went ‘Channel route’ for its UPS range in 2003. On the channel strategy for the solar solutions, R Chellappan, Director, Numeric Power Systems clarified, “Since the market is in early adoption stage for solar solutions, we will work directly with the end users. As the market matures, we will work through channels for solar installations in future.” The 3000 plus channel base of resellers / system integrators across India will continue to concentrate on power conditioning equipment mainly UPS, he added.

Numeric Power Systems has reportedly registered a turnover of Rs 427.8 crore during last fiscal year. “We expect at least 10percent of our revenues (to the tune of 50 crore rupees) in this fiscal year from solar –related solutions,” Balan estimated. Meanwhile, Numeric has also ventured into LED lightning systems (indoor/outdoor) and customized LED lightning solutions, which consume less power and propel Green IT amidst organizations.

Chellappan added, “We continue to identify potential channel partners especially in upcountry to propel UPS range. We would work with niche system integrators to execute large projects for power conditioning solutions including solar solutions in future.”
