There are over hundreds of government initiated apps for Android, Apple and Windows devices. With Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative, the government has released several new feature-rich smartphone applications.
While one lets you provide the government with ideas of your own, there are apps to help you getting your passport, aadhaar card and even RTIs. Let us look at some of these government apps you must use.
Released on June 17, 2015, this app connects you directly with the Prime Minister himself. You can follow Modi’s progress as he posts live updates of his work, read his blog and even earn badges by doing small tasks.
Released on July 1, 2015, with the onset of Modi’s ambitious Digital India Week, this app allows every citizen to contribute their ideas to the government. Users can post pictures and comment upon issues like Digital India, Clean India, etc.
Say goodbye to the days of sitting and growling at the IRCTC website. With one-step login for existing users, journey alerts, saved passenger details and cancelling tickets, the app has made train reservations much easier.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan:
Launched last year soon after the launch of the campaign, the app provides details of cleanliness drive programmes initiated by the government. You can also ask your friends to join you in cleaning your locality. Earlier this year, a group of young Indian girls pitched an idea for a mobile marketplace for waste inspired by this app.
MEAIndia (Ministry of External Affairs):
An app which works as a single window to the Ministry of External Affairs of the country, it is an user oriented app targeted towards Indians overseas.
Also released by the Ministry of External Affairs, this app aims at providing all passport related information and services to citizens. You can also track the progress of your passport application and other details.
Released by the Ministry of Tourism, it is an user driven app containing information for domestic and international tourists. With information from recognized service providers like travel agents, tour operators and guides readily available, the app also has tips regarded which areas to visit at a particular location.
Honorable Mention - RTI India:
Although not an official government app, it is a very useful app for RTI activists and already has about 4,00,000 users. You can read blogs on RTI, get instant help on your RTI and also upload images and videos related to RTIs using your phone’s camera.
